Het Zonnelied en Het Licht Van Hoop

Joseph Joyson Palliparambil Vincent
Beeld

The Canticle of Sun has been an all time interest for me as a Franciscan Capuchin Friar. As it opportuned now to paint this subject I meditated upon Francis' experience of untold pain after receiving the Stigmata in his body and his misery with negative experiences from his brothers. His prayer in the middle of nature gives him fresh energy and enthusiasm as the magnificent Sun shows himself up from behind the clouds. He reads the fact of fraternal spirit in a new light of hope which forms the basis of my painting

The painting, acrylic on canvas (100 x 70 cms), with the frame (119 x 89 cms), has been stylised with low impasto texturisation with a silicone tool and with inculcation of "Madhubani" (One of the Indian Tribal Arts) art motifs. A large fish at the bottom of the painting replenishes the "Christ experience" of Francis of Assisi. Depiction of Sun and Moon bears the "fraternal spirit". The green leaves represent earth. Stretched arms of the "Tau" is symbolic of "reconciliation" and the White Bird symbolises "sister death".
